Zanzibar consists of two main islands:
Unguja (commonly referred to as Zanzibar): Unguja is more urbanized and economically active than Pemba.
Pemba: Pemba is approximately a 4-hour journey from Unguja.
Mainland Tanzania is often informally referred to as “Bongo.”
Common abbreviations:
Zanzibar → ZNZ
Tanzania → TZ
Driving license note:
A Mainland Tanzania license is not valid in Zanzibar
A Zanzibar license is valid in Mainland Tanzania
